The Gambrinus League 2005/06 was the 13th season of the top Czech league in football . It was held from August 5, 2005 to May 13, 2006 with a winter break from December 13 to February 17, 2006.
16 teams played against each other twice on a total of 30 match days, divided into a first half and a second half.
Czech football champions became Slovan Liberec for the second time after 2001/02 . Last year newcomer FK Mladá Boleslav secured second place ahead of Slavia Prague due to the better direct comparison with equal points (54). The FK Teplice qualified by the fourth place for the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup . Record champions Sparta Prague only came in fifth, the worst performance since the league was launched in 1993. But Prague secured their European Cup participation by winning the Czech Cup . The newcomer FC Vysočina Jihlava and the village club FK Chmel Blšany , which had been in the first division since 1998, had to relegate .
The top scorer was the Slovak Milan Ivana from 1. FC Slovácko with eleven goals , while Dušan Švento from Slavia Prague was named best foreign player .
