Giles County is a county in the state of Tennessee in the United States . The county seat is Pulaski .

The county is located in southern Tennessee, bordering Alabama and has an area of 1,583 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Maury County , Marshall County , Lincoln County , Limestone County, Alabama, and Lawrence County .
history
Giles County was formed on November 14, 1809 from parts of Maury County. It was named after William B. Giles , a US Senator and Governor of Virginia .

As of the 2000 census , Giles County had 29,447 people in 11,713 households and 8,363 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 86.44 percent white, 11.80 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.21 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.90 percent of the population.
Of the 11,713 households, 31.4 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 55.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.9 percent were single mothers, and 28.6 percent were non-families. 25.7 percent were single households and 11.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average household size was 2.96 people.
24.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24, 27.9 percent between 25 and 44, 24.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.5 percent were older than 65. The mean age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 94.4 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 91.2 males.
The median income for a household in the 34,824 USD , and the median income for a family was 41,714 USD. Males had a median income of $ 31,221 versus $ 22,221 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,543. 9.0 percent of families and 11.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
