The 1998 IBSF World Snooker Championship was the 25th edition of the World Amateur Snooker Championship . It took place from November 3rd to 15th, 1998 in the Gitic Hotel Ballroom in Guangzhou and thus for the first time in China . The Englishman Luke Simmonds became world champion with an 11:10 win in the final against Welshman Ryan Day .

mode

The 63 participants were divided into eight groups in which they competed against each other in round robin mode . The four best placed in each group qualified for the final round, which was played in the knockout system .
