coat of arms
Blazon : “Under a silver shield head, inside three blue wavy bars, split by blue and green; in front a golden castle: a crenellated tower above a crenellated wall with gate. behind a silver goblet accompanied by three golden four-petalled flowers. "
A competition was held to design the coat of arms of the newly formed district. In November 2008, the winner was a design that featured a lion on a blue background, framed by five stars . In discussions it was pointed out that this draft only represented a small part of the new circle and that there was also a risk of confusion with existing coats of arms. On June 3, 2009, the district council passed a different draft with a large majority, which was approved by the Leipzig regional office on October 30, 2009.
The coat of arms of the district of Leipzig is in three parts. It combines three heraldic motifs that stand for the three regions that have shaped the new district of Leipzig culturally and economically.
- In the head of the shield, three blue wavy lines symbolize the Leipziger Neuseenland , the landscape south of Leipzig that is newly emerging as part of the recultivation and renaturation of the former opencast mine and is part of the Saxon Lakeland.
- The castle in the (heraldic) right half of the shield refers to Gnandstein Castle in the district of the same name belonging to the town of Kohren-Sahlis. The castle is considered to be Saxony's best-preserved Romanesque fortification and is the flagship of the Kohrener Land tourism region .
- The heraldic left half of the shield represents the eastern part of the circle, in which the confluence of the Zwickauer and Freiberger Mulde rivers is represented by a silver cap on a green background. It is the image of the coat of arms of the former Muldental circle, which has been adopted in a slightly varied form, accompanied by golden flowers, which in turn allude to its predecessor circles.
Economy and Infrastructure
In the Future Atlas 2016 , the Leipzig district was ranked 328th out of 402 districts, municipal associations and independent cities in Germany, making it one of the regions with “future risks”.
In December 2012, the city of Leipzig, the districts of Leipzig and Northern Saxony and the Leipzig Chamber of Commerce and Industry decided to found the joint WRL Wirtschaftsförderung Region Leipzig GmbH.
Health economy
There are four standard care hospitals in the district, namely the two private Leipziger Land clinics, consisting of the Borna Clinic (with a certified stroke unit for stroke patients, breast and bowel center ) and the Zwenkau Clinic (structurally connected to the Helios Geriatric Center) and the two Muldental clinics in Grimma and Wurzen in the sponsorship of the district. In addition, the specialist hospital for neurology and psychiatry in Zschadraß work with the Diakonie as the sponsor and the neurological rehabilitation center in Bennewitz with 40 acute beds in the hands of private Michels clinics . The Michels Clinics are also the sponsors of the Sachsenklinik in the spa town of Bad Lausick , a rehabilitation clinic for orthopedics, neurology and psychosomatic medicine. The spa town houses another private rehabilitation clinic, the Median Clinic , for cardiovascular diseases and orthopedics. In Naunhof to the north is the Sachsen-Klinik (with a hyphen!) Naunhof, a rehabilitation clinic for diseases of the musculoskeletal system. The Brandis Specialist Clinic is a rehabilitation clinic for orthopedics, rheumatology, psychosomatics and neurology. In 2010, the Free State selected three model regions for geriatric care in Saxony, including the Gerinet Leipzig-Süd care network (Helios-Kliniken).
With the outfitter for ENT doctors dantschke MEDIZINTECHNIK, founded in 1963, based in Markkleeberg and ESA Elektroschaltanlagen Grimma GmbH, which equips hospitals and medical facilities with switchgear and assemblies for a complete power supply, two medical technology companies are located in the district.
traffic
The federal highways 9 , 14 , 38 and 72 as well as the federal highways 2 , 6 , 7 , 93 , 95 , 107 , 175 , 176 and the 186 are important traffic routes in the district . The Parthenaue motorway triangle should be mentioned as an important traffic junction . The extension of the A 72 from Chemnitz to Leipzig is under construction.
The railway lines Leipzig – Riesa – Dresden , Leipzig – Döbeln – Coswig , Neukieritzsch – Geithain – Chemnitz , Leipzig – Geithain , Leipzig – Altenburg – Zwickau / Hof , Leipzig – Zeitz – Gera and Leipzig – Großkorbetha (–Weißenfels) run through the district . Since the opening of the Leipzig City Tunnel , the lines of the S-Bahn Central Germany have connected the district with Leipzig city center without changing trains. There are also direct connections to the Leipzig Fair , the airport Leipzig / Halle and Halle Central . The nearest long-distance train stations are Leipzig Hauptbahnhof and Riesa .
The White Elster and the Mulde , which run through the district, are not navigable.
