history

The village emerged in the 13th century as part of the colonization of the Kingdom Forest and was originally called Lyubnatow . The place name is derived from the personal name Libňata. Together with the now extinct village of Výrov, which was located in the Vejroviny forest, Lyubnatow belonged to the goods of the giant castle . In 1461 sold Jiřík of Chlum on Litoboř the Freigut Libnětov with judgment and Kretscham and six rods farmland to Pavel of Libnětov. After the Riesenburg goods were sold, Libňatov became subject to the Nachod rule in 1534 . In 1628 Libňatov consisted of 18 farms and twelve chalets , in 1654 there were 16 estates and 14 chalets. In 1738 the village consisted of 18 estates and 30 chalets. In 1773 the Nachod manor acquired the forested Kopna hill from the Smiřice manor . The backrest on it is still called Smiřická stráň ( Smiřice side ). In 1773 school lessons were started in rented premises by the tailor Jan Boura from Úpice. A school building was built on the Ohrada square in 1789. The building site soon proved to be unsuitable because of its wetness. As early as 1808, a new school building had to be built elsewhere. The old mill was built in 1790 in place of the burned down Chaluppe No. 39. Another mill was built in 1814. In 1848 the estate (No. 47) owned 112 bushels, including six bushels of forest and four bushels of meadow land. The residents lived from agriculture and home weaving. Until the abolition of patrimonial Libňatov / Liebenthal always remained submissive to Náchod.

From 1850 Libňatov formed a municipality in the Neustadt an der Mettau district . Between 1855 and 1868 the community belonged to the Nachod district , between 1868 and 1876 again to the Neustadt an der Mettau district and from 1876 to the Trautenau district . From 1880 onwards, the population began to decline due to the emigration of poor sections of the population who settled as wage laborers near factories. The two-class schooling began in November 1880. Until 1884 the children from Maršov to Libňatov were also enrolled, although they were taught in Maršov in winter. In 1891 the school moved into a new building. Between 1861 and 1928, 19 fires broke out in the community, killing three people. The syringe house was built in 1907. Between 1906 and 1910 the new road from Úpice via Havlovice to Hořičky was built . At the beginning of the 1930s, coal was mined briefly, but mining was soon stopped again. After the Munich Agreement, the predominantly Czech-speaking village remained with Czechoslovakia and was added to the Okres Náchod . After the end of the war, the community returned to Okres Trutnov.
