Distribution of seats for the citizens of the State of Bremen in 2005

The 16th legislative period was the first legislative period in which not 100, but only 83 members were elected. At the same time, it was the first legislative period in which the members of the Bremen city council (Landtag) did not completely coincide with the members of the city citizenship. Since 2003 only 66 of the 67 members of the Bremen state parliament have been members of the city citizenship, because the votes of the citizens of the European Union are also used in the composition of city citizenship. A higher proportion of them voted for the Greens. Since these votes may not be taken into account in the election for citizenship (Landtag) and the number of citizenship members may not be increased, a member of Alliance 90 / The Greens is only represented in the city citizenship. For this, a member of the SPD sits only in the state parliament and not at the same time in the city citizenship.

The turnout was 61.3%. As in the 15th legislative period , Christian Weber is the president of the citizenship .
