Apr 28, 2015 Julius Levy was born on January 16, 1892 in Niedermarsberg to Michael and Anna Levy. He lived in Ludwigshafen and Mannheim and from 1937 in Berlin. He was married to Käte Levy, with whom he had two children, Marga and Werner. Julius Levy was the managing director and co-owner of Brandt GmbH in Ludwigshafen, a textile department store with several branches in other cities. The company was Aryanized in 1936 and continued to operate as Klebs KG “Klebs das Textilhaus”. The family moved to Berlin in 1937 and lived there on their fortune. The family apparently toyed with the idea of emigrating and therefore encouraged their daughter to learn a trade. In the end, the Levys only managed to accommodate the then 15-year-old Marga on one of the last children's transports to England, which saved the family as the only one. Julius, Käte and Werner Levy were taken to the Große Hamburger Straße assembly camp on February 24, 1943, and from there they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau on February 26, 1943 on the 30th transport to the east , where they were murdered. Remarks

  1. In the literature, September 5, 1942 is often mentioned as the departure date of the 19th transport to the east. However, this is only the date of the letter from the Berlin State Police Headquarters to the OFP Berlin-Brandenburg with which the transport list was sent, which usually took place a few days after the departure of a transport. In the monthly statistics of the Reichsvereinigung, however, the transport is classified in August 1942. As can be seen from the protocol of the Reichsvereinigung for consultation with the Gestapo on July 29, 1942, the eastern transport was planned for August 31, 1942 [Max Kreutzberger Collection, Leo Baeck Institute, MF 798]. The departure of the transport on this date will be confirmed. a. in a letter from the Reich Association to the property office of the OFP, in which reference is made to several deportees from August 31 [Bundesarchiv, R 8150/477].
  2. The 14th Berlin Osttransport is often incorrectly dated in the literature. Confusion is caused by the handwritten record of the partial list processed by the OFP with the numbers 701–720, on which it says: “Great transport from 13.6.42”. However, the letter accompanying the supplementary list with the numbers 747-757 clearly dates the transport to June 2, 1942, and also in the letter accompanying the subsequent submission of declarations of assets, which is dated June 13 and thus obviously the template for the above-mentioned OFP- Date note, it says unmistakably: "Enclosed I am sending 6 declarations of assets from those Jews who were evacuated with the transport on June 2, 1942." The Gestapo transport list contains 758 names and 12 deletions, so that 746 deportees can be assumed. The exact destination of the transport is not yet known.
