Max Bennet Kruse (born March 19, 1988 in Reinbek ) is a German soccer player . The offensive player played in the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen , FC St. Pauli , SC Freiburg , Borussia Mönchengladbach and VfL Wolfsburg . After a year at Fenerbahçe Istanbul , the 14-time senior international has been under contract with 1. FC Union Berlin since August 2020 .

Kruse grew up in Reinbek, his birthplace, east of Hamburg . In his youth he was a HSV fan. He started playing soccer at TSV Reinbek in 1992 . In the summer of 1998 he moved to the Hamburg club TSV Kirchwerder, which one year later merged with SV Ochsenwerder-Moorfleet to form SC Vier- und Marschlande .

Werder Bremen

In January 2006, Kruse moved to Werder Bremen , whose second team he was part of from 2006 to 2009. Until 2006, Kruse had also regularly acted as a referee in lower leagues, but decided against a career as a referee after being appointed to the Werder Bremen youth team. In the 2007/08 season , coach Thomas Schaaf appointed him to the professional squad because of personnel concerns. VfL Wolfsburg

In May 2015, VfL Wolfsburg signed him for the 2015/16 season . Kruse signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2019. For the 2019/20 season, the attacker moved to the Turkish Süper Lig for Fenerbahçe Istanbul , where he received a three-year contract. National team

Kruse played several international matches for the German U19 and U20 . He played his only game for the U21 national team on May 28, 2008 against Denmark , when he was substituted on at half time and scored the goal to make it 4-0 shortly before the end.

On May 16, 2013, Kruse was appointed by Joachim Löw for the international matches against Ecuador (May 29, 2013) and the United States (June 2, 2013) in the squad of the German national team. He made his A international debut on May 29, 2013 in a 4-2 win in the friendly against the selection of Ecuador in Boca Raton ( United States ); in the 79th minute he was substituted for Dennis Aogo . His first international goal he scored on June 2, 2013 in Washington in the 3: 4 defeat against the United States with the goal to 2: 4 in the 79th minute. Since 2014, Kruse has been regularly participating in renowned live poker tournaments during the summer break . In June 2014 he played in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas , the World Cup in No Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball , after which variant a day earlier from the multiple bracelet winner George Danzer had explain. Controversy

On October 18, 2015, Kruse lost cash amounting to 75,000 euros in a Berlin taxi, probably in connection with a poker game. Kruse filed a complaint against unknown persons. His club VfL Wolfsburg fined him for unprofessional behavior.

On March 19, 2016, in a Berlin club where he was celebrating his birthday, there was a dispute that had become public with a reporter from the Bild newspaper who had photographed him without his permission. After that, he was no longer used for the national team and subsequently also missed the European Championship in 2016 .

In 2018, Kruse and Benjamin Leuchter founded the Max Kruse Racing motorsport team , which competes in the ADAC TCR Germany. His father Frank is the managing director for the team.
