The county is roughly level with the geographic center of Missouri in the Ozarks on the east bank of the Lake of the Ozarks , a reservoir of the Osage River . It has an area of 1554 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Miller County:

Miller County was formed in 1837. It was named after John Miller (1781-1846), the fourth governor of Missouri (1825-1832) and later member of the US House of Representatives (1837-1843).
Eight structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 6, 2018).
Demographic data
As of the 2010 census , Miller County had 24,748 people in 10,410 households. The population density was 16.1 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.33 people in each of the 10,410 households.
The racial the population was composed of 96.8 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 0.3 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 1.5 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
24.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 59.7 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.8 percent were 65 years or older. 50.3 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 35,838 USD . The per capita income was $ 18,202. 16.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
