history
The original origin of the name of the city of Naves can be found in the pre-Celtic and denoted the valley. Originated at the crossroads of ancient roads, the castle developed from the 6th century, shortly after leaving the Gallic-Roman settlement. During the Carolingian rule , Naves was the seat of an important viguerie , during which time the Saint-Pierre-es-liens church was first mentioned. In the 13th century Naves became a bailiwick . The bailiff was appointed by the cathedral chapter of Tulle, his duties included the entire religious, administrative and judicial area. His power in Naves was so extensive that the Vogt became lord of Naves . Because of its lucrative nature, this position was very popular among the large families of the Limousin.
Municipal coat of arms
Description : In silver, a red armored , tongued and crowned black lion .
The coat of arms of Naves is the old coat of arms of the von Chaunac-Lanzac family: a crowned lion on a silver background.
