The nickel group , sometimes also (outdated) called platinum group , is the 10th group of the periodic table of the elements with the elements nickel (Ni) , palladium (Pd) , platinum (Pt) and the Darmstadtium (Ds), which was first produced in 1994 . The term is rarely used, as the group is usually combined with the 8th and 9th group to form the iron-platinum group .

Despite the similarity of the name of the outdated term platinum group , the nickel group must not be confused with the platinum metals . The latter include the elements of groups 8 to 10 of the 5th and 6th periods: ruthenium (Ru) , osmium (Os) , rhodium (Rh) , iridium (Ir) , palladium (Pd) and platinum (Pt) .
