Former honorary citizens
On August 27, 1933, the NSDAP-dominated city council decided to apply for honorary citizenship to the Prussian Prime Minister Hermann Göring , whose ancestors came from Emmerich , on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city . On June 3, 1934, Göring was received and the letter of honorary citizenship handed out. It was not until more than six decades later that the council revoked his honorary citizenship.
