The manor house dates back to the 14th century. But today's buildings were built after the 16th century. It was built on the slope of a hill, along the le But stream , and forms 3/4 of a circle. The manor house and the mill were added to the list of historical monuments in 1983.

Personalities

  • Jean-Baptiste Jumelin: Born in Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard in 1745. He was initially a physics and chemistry teacher at the lycée impérial (today lycée Louis-le-Grand) in Paris . Then he was Doctor Régent de la Faculté de Paris . He was also an inventor (pneumatic machine, fire pump, microscope, ...). In 1806 he published a Traité élémentaire de physique et de chimie . In 1807 he died in Soissons .
  • Louise Catherine Jumelin: born on August 27, 1770 in Saint-Germain-le-Gaillard. On July 13, 1790, she married Marin Nicolas Millet. The couple had many children, including Jean-Louis Millet, father of Jean-François Millet . Louise Jumelin took care of the upbringing of her grandson, who was to become a good Christian. In 1871, JF Millet painted the Manoir du But, which is next to his grandmother's house. Louise Jumelin was the niece of Jean-Baptiste Jumelin.
