Sergei Nikolajewitsch Juran ( Russian Сергей Николаевич Юран ; born June 11, 1969 in Lugansk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a former Russian football player and current coach . After the fall of the Soviet Union, he played for the Russian national team , for which he took part in the '94 World Cup in the USA .
Life
Sergei Juran was born in 1969 in Lugansk , eastern Ukraine . The striker began his active career in 1989 with Dynamo Kiev . In 1990 he became Soviet champions with his club and was also able to win the Soviet football cup. When the Soviet Union finally dissolved at the end of 1991, Juran then moved to Benfica Lisbon in Portugal. Further stations in his career were FC Porto , Spartak Moscow , FC Millwall , Fortuna Düsseldorf , VfL Bochum , again Spartak Moscow and most recently SK Sturm Graz .
In the early 1990s, he was considered one of the most talented strikers in Europe. After moving to Benfica Lisbon in 1992, however, he attracted attention through escapades; there were few sporting highlights. In October 1992 Juran was in a dispute with Benfica coach Tomislav Ivić and claimed that the coach would not use him due to racial prejudice. In May 1994, Juran was temporarily suspended from Benfica after refusing to sit on the substitutes' bench. Juran also has a Portuguese passport from his time in Portugal.
He moved to FC Porto for the 1994/95 season , where he also played a very poor season. In 1994 Juran caused a traffic accident in Porto in the early hours of the morning, in which the driver of the other vehicle was killed. He hit the road and was caught by the police two hours later. In December 1999, he was sentenced to one year in prison and fined $ 15,000 for negligent homicide . After the Portuguese parliament passed an amnesty law last year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the revolution , he did not have to serve the sentence.
In October 1997, half a year after moving to VfL Bochum , he was banned from playing two games within the club after his driver's license had been withdrawn after driving in an alcoholic state with more than two per thousand . During the winter break, a move to Trabzonspor failed due to financial issues. On the third last day of the 1997/98 season, he scored both goals in the relegation battle for a 2-1 win. In August 1998 Juran traveled without the club's knowledge to prepare the national team for the international match against Sweden and was subsequently suspended. By injunction he forced participation in the training, but was later given to Spartak Moscow.
For the attack, Spartak Moscow hoped for new impetus from Sergei Juran and he also managed to take on the role of conductor. In March 1998 Juran had injured his foot in a shower accident and afterwards could not regain his shape. On August 9, 1998, the club separated from him. A move to SK Sturm Graz followed . Sergei Juran reached the UEFA Champions League with Sturm Graz until he was seriously injured in a header duel in a league game. He broke his browbone and a continuation of the career as a professional footballer was no longer possible. He ended his career in October 2000.
Coaching career
Juran has been a coach since 2003 and initially took over the reserve team from Spartak Moscow. In February 2009 he took over the post of head coach at the Kazakh first division club Lokomotive Astana , where he was under contract until the end of the 2009 season and won the runner-up with the team.
