The Škoda Fabia III came onto the market in November 2014 as the successor to the Škoda Fabia II , initially only with a hatchback. The station wagon version of the small car followed in January 2015. The car is produced in the Škoda plant in Mladá Boleslav , but also in Russia and China for the local markets. The premiere took place in October 2014 at the Paris Motor Show .

Model history

The Fabia III is not based, as often assumed in the media, on the modular transverse matrix (MQB). It is a mix of several platforms , including the MQB. A small proportion comes from the PQ25 platform, while the mixed platform is largely based on the PQ26 .

At 3.99 meters in length, 1.73 meters in width and 1.45 meters in height, the Fabia is one centimeter shorter and four centimeters lower, but nine centimeters wider than its predecessor. The interior width remained almost unchanged. The trunk grew from 315 to 330 liters, but with the spare wheel only from 300 to 305 liters. With the rear seat back folded down, the volume of 1150 liters (1125 with spare wheel) is less than that of the previous Fabia, which could hold 1180 liters (1165 with spare wheel). In addition, the rear seat bench can no longer be folded forward, so that when the rear seat backrest is laid flat, a higher step is created than in the previous model and smaller items of luggage can slide forward into the passenger compartment.

The technical data of the Combi version is very similar to the sedan: it has a 15 mm larger wheelbase (2470 mm) and has been available with the 44 kW one-liter engine since July 2020. According to the manufacturer, the total length of the new model is 4257 mm. The interior dimensions of the new Combi have increased compared to its predecessor. The trunk volume increased to 530 l (previously 505 l), with the rear seat backs folded down again, resulting in a loss of space from 1485 to 1395 liters. In contrast to the sedan, the rear bench seat can be folded forward. When the backrest is folded down, an almost flat loading area is created. In both models, a spare wheel makes the trunk 25 liters smaller.

Around 500,000 Fabia IIIs had been sold by February 2018. In Germany, the Fabia was the third best-selling small car in the first half of 2018 with 24,543 new registrations.

Facelift

In June 2017 new engines have been introduced: The TSI - three-cylinder engine with a capacity of one liter and 70 kW (95 hp) and 81 kW (110 hp) replaced the previous 1.2 TSI engines.

At the 88th Geneva Motor Show in March 2018, Škoda presented a revised version of the Fabia by designer Jiří Hadaščok. So far, this is no longer supplied with diesel engines, as the "PQ" platform of the Fabia does not provide space for an SCR catalytic converter . For the first time, LED headlights , a high beam assistant and rear traffic monitoring are available. Every Fabia now has a 6.5-inch display in the middle of the instrument panel.

For the 2019 model year, the standard equipment was upgraded: inside USB port and SD memory card slot, outside LED daytime running lights and electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors.

technology

The c w value of the body of the hatchback model is 0.32, that of the Combi up to 0.30. Their design requires that the press tools must be reground after 25,000 operations to produce them.

The chassis has MacPherson struts at the front with triangular wishbones and torsion stabilizers , and a torsion beam axle at the rear . It is steered with an electromechanically supported rack and pinion steering , which is also used in the VW Golf. The front wheels are decelerated with internally ventilated disc brakes , the rear wheels with drum brakes and from 66 kW (90 hp) with disc brakes. The ESP has been revised, and new assistants such as drowsiness detection , parking assist, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking are also available.

Radio and navigation systems

There are several systems to choose from in the Fabia III:

  • Blues: Without a touchscreen ; In the basic configuration "Active" as standard
  • Swing: With 5 ″ touchscreen
  • Bolero: With 6.5 ″ touchscreen

With the facelift in June 2017, the equipment levels were improved:

  • Swing: With 6.5 ″ touchscreen; Included in the "Active" basic equipment
  • Amundsen: With 6.5 ″ touchscreen, traffic data and traffic jam warning

Engines and gears

All engines meet the EU-6 emissions standard and have an automatic start-stop system and brake energy recovery (recuperation) . A seven-speed dual clutch transmission is also available for some more powerful engines .
