This is an incomplete list of British supercentenarians (people who have attained the age of at least 110 years and 0 days), ordered by date of birth. Currently there are five verified living supercentenarians in Britain, the oldest of whom is Florrie Baldwin, aged 1896. The others are Henry Allingham, Annie Butler, Harry Patch and Eunice Bowman. There are a further two unverified living supercentenarians in Britain; Louisa Shephard and Annie Turnbull.

Neurology is a medical specialty dealing with disorders of the nervous system. Specifically, it deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all categories of disease involving the central, peripheral, and autonomic nervous systems, including their coverings, blood vessels, and
all effector tissue, such as muscle. Physicians who specialize in neurology are called neurologists, and are trained to investigate, or diagnose and treat, neurological disorders. Pediatric neurologists treat neurological disease in children. Neurologists may also be involved in clinical research, clinical trials, as well as basic research and translational research. In the United Kingdom, contributions to the field of neurology stem from various professions; saliently, several biomedical research scientists are choosing to specialize in the technical/laboratory aspects of one of neurology's subdisciplines.

Below is a short summary of the current oldest living people in England, Scotland, and Wales:
Field of work
Neurological disorders are disorders that can affect the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), the peripheral nervous system, or the autonomic nervous system.

Educational requirements
A neurologist's educational background and medical training varies with the country of training. In the United States and Canada, neurologists are physicians who have completed postgraduate training in neurology after graduation from medical school.

{| class="wikitable sortable" style="font-size:97%"
Neurologists complete, on average, 12 years of postsecondary education and clinical training. This training includes obtaining a four-year undergraduate degree, a medical degree, which is an additional four years, and then completing a four-year residency in neurology. The four-year residency consists of one year of internal medicine training followed by three years of training in neurology.

Territorial records
Many neurologists also have additional subspecialty training (fellowships) after completing their residency in one area of neurology such as stroke, interventional neurology, epilepsy, neuromuscular, sleep medicine, pain management, neuroimmunology, clinical neurophysiology, or movement disorders.

The following table lists both the known male and female longevity records for the constituent countries, Crown dependencies and overseas territories of the United Kingdom; and former overseas territories of the British Empire.
In the United Kingdom and Ireland, neurology is a subspecialty of general (internal) medicine. After five or six years of medical school and a year as a pre-registration house officer (or two years on the new Foundation Programme) a would-be neurologist has to get enough training in internal medicine to pass the examination for Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (or the Irish equivalent) before entering specialist training in neurology. A generation ago some neurologists would also spend a couple of years working in psychiatric units and obtain a Diploma in Psychological Medicine, but that became uncommon and now that a basic psychiatric qualification takes three years to obtain it is no longer practical. A period of research is essential, and obtaining a higher degree aids career progression: many found it was eased after an attachment to the Institute of Neurology at Queen Square in London. Some neurologists enter the field of rehabilitation medicine (known as physiatry in the US) to specialise in neurological rehabiltation, which may include stroke medicine as well as brain injuries.

Chronological list of the oldest people in Britain
During a neurological examination, the neurologist reviews the patient's health history with special attention to the current condition. The patient then takes a neurological exam. Typically, the exam tests mental status, function of the cranial nerves (including vision), strength, coordination, reflexes and sensation. This information helps the neurologist determine if the problem exists in the nervous system and the clinical localization. Localization of the pathology is the key process by which neurologists develop their differential diagnosis. Further tests may be needed to confirm a diagnosis and ultimately guide therapy and appropriate management.

Neurologists are responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of all the above conditions. When surgical intervention is required, the neurologist may refer the patient to a neurosurgeon. In some countries, additional legal responsibilities of a neurologist may include making a finding of brain death when it is suspected that a patient is deceased. Neurologists frequently care for people with hereditary (genetic) diseases when the major manifestations are neurological, as is frequently the case. Lumbar punctures are frequently performed by neurologists. Some neurologists may develop an interest in particular subfields, such as dementia, movement disorders, headaches, epilepsy, sleep disorders, chronic pain management, multiple sclerosis or neuromuscular diseases.

Margaret Ann Neve
Margaret Ann Neve, née Harvey (18 May 1792 – 4 April 1903) of St. Peter Port, Guernsey was the first recorded female supercentenarian, and the first of either gender in the 20th century. As a child, Neve survived a fall down the stairs, which left her concussed for three days. Neve could remember the turmoil that the French Revolution brought to Guernsey. In 1807, Neve set sail for Weymouth with her father, but a storm caused the ship to land at Chesil Beach. She was educated in Bristol, England, gaining an interest in literature and poetry. Neve met with Charles François Dumouriez, a French general of the French Revolutionary Wars, who dubbed her 'la spirituelle'. She married John Neve in 1823 in England, but returned to Guernsey in 1849 after his death. Neve travelled abroad to various countries with her sister, who died aged 98. === Hannah Smith ===
Hannah Smith (Salford, England, 7 January 1856 – Sheffield, England, 10 January 1966) was a British supercentenarian and the oldest recognized living person in the world when she died at 110 years and 3 days after collapsing on her 110th birthday. She was listed in the 1967 Guinness Book of Records, and was the last remaining woman documented as born in 1856.
There is some overlap with other specialties, varying from country to country and even within a local geographic area. Acute head trauma is most often treated by neurosurgeons, whereas sequelae of head trauma may be treated by neurologists or specialists in rehabilitation medicine. Although stroke cases have been traditionally managed by internal medicine or hospitalists, the emergence of vascular neurology and interventional neurologists has created a demand for stroke specialists. The establishment of JCAHO certified stroke centers has increased the role of neurologists in stroke care in many primary as well as tertiary hospitals. Some cases of nervous system infectious diseases are treated by infectious disease specialists. Most cases of headache are diagnosed and treated primarily by general practitioners, at least the less severe cases. Similarly, most cases of sciatica and other mechanical radiculopathies are treated by general practitioners, though they may be referred to neurologists or a surgeon (neurosurgeons or orthopedic surgeons). Sleep disorders are also treated by pulmonologists. Cerebral palsy is initially treated by pediatricians, but care may be transferred to an adult neurologist after the patient reaches a certain age. In the United Kingdom and other countries, many of the conditions encountered by older patients such as movement disorders including Parkinson's Disease, stroke, dementia or gait disorders are managed predominantly by specialists in geriatric medicine.

start box
Clinical neuropsychologists are often called upon to evaluate brain-behavior relationships for the purpose of assisting with differential diagnosis, planning rehabilitation strategies, documenting cognitive strengths and weaknesses, and measuring change over time (e.g., for identifying abnormal aging or tracking the progression of a dementia).

Relationship to clinical neurophysiology
John Mosely Turner (15 June 1856 – 21 March 1968) was a British supercentenarian and the world's oldest person for more than two years. He was born in Mitcham, England, and died in Tottenham, also in England, at age 111 years 280 days. He had been blind since the age of 73. Turner was first listed in the 1964 edition of the Guinness Book of Records as Britain's oldest man, and was in fact the oldest man in the world. He surpassed the age of Geert Adriaans Boomgaard and Demetrius Philipovitch in 1966, and the now disputed case of James Henry Brett, Jr. in 1968, to become the then oldest man ever, unless Thomas Peters is considered validated. Turner's record was allegedly broken by Shigechiyo Izumi in 1977 and Mathew Beard in 1982, but these cases are also disputed, so it may have been Alphaeus Philemon Cole who surpassed him, as late as 1988.
In some countries, e.g. USA and Germany, neurologists may specialize in clinical neurophysiology, the field responsible for EEG, nerve conduction studies, EMG and evoked potentials. In other countries, this is an autonomous specialty (e.g. United Kingdom, Sweden).

Ada Roe
Although many mental illnesses are believed to be neurological disorders affecting the central nervous system, traditionally they are classified separately, and treated by psychiatrists. In a 2002 review article in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Professor VIJAY, Dean of Harvard Medical School and a neurologist by training, wrote that 'the separation of the two categories is arbitrary, often influenced by beliefs rather than proven scientific observations. And the fact that the brain and mind are one makes the separation artificial anyway.' (Martin JB. The integration of neurology, psychiatry and neuroscience in the 21st century. Am J Psychiatry 2002; 159:695-704)
Ada Roe, née Giddings (Islington, England, 6 February 1858 – Lowestoft, England, 11 January 1970) was a British supercentenarian and the oldest recognized living person in the world between around October 1968 and her death aged 111 years 339 days. There are strong indications that neurochemical mechanisms play an important role in the development of, for instance, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Also, 'neurological' diseases often have 'psychiatric' manifestations, such as post-stroke depression, depression and dementia associated with Parkinson's disease, mood and cognitive dysfunctions in Alzheimer's disease, to name a few. Hence, there is no sharp distinction between neurology and psychiatry on a biological basisndash; this distinction has mainly practical reasoning and strong historical roots (such as the dominance of Freud's psychoanalytic theory in the first three quarters of the 20th centuryndash which has since then been largely replaced by the focus on neurosciencesndash aided by the tremendous advances in genetics and neuroimaging.)

Margaret Ann Neve

Margaret Ann Neve, née Harvey (18 May 17924 April 1903) of St. Peter Port, Guernsey was the first recorded female supercentenarian, and the first of either gender in the 20th century. As a child, Neve survived a fall down the stairs, which left her concussed for three days.[7] Neve could remember the turmoil that the French Revolution brought to Guernsey. In 1807, Neve set sail for Weymouth with her father, but a storm caused the ship to land at Chesil Beach. She was educated in Bristol, England, gaining an interest in literature and poetry. Neve met with Charles François Dumouriez, a French general of the French Revolutionary Wars, who dubbed her 'la spirituelle'.[8] She married John Neve in 1823 in England, but returned to Guernsey in 1849 after his death.[9] Neve travelled abroad to various countries with her sister, who died aged 98. Their last trip was in 1872 where they visited Cracow, Poland (then in Austria-Hungary).[9] Her mother lived to the age of 99.[7] She was the oldest person in the world at the time of her death at age 110 years and 321 days and also the oldest person ever at that point in time, if the disputed case of Thomas Peters is discounted. Either way, she was surpassed by Louisa Thiers in 1925, but she is still the only ever supercentenarian from the Channel Islands and one of the few recorded persons who lived in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Hannah Smith (Salford, England, 7 January 1856Sheffield, England, 10 January 1966) was a British supercentenarian and the oldest recognized living person in the world when she died at 110 years and 3 days after collapsing on her 110th birthday.[10] She was listed in the 1967 Guinness Book of Records, and was the last remaining woman documented as born in 1856.

John Mosely Turner

John Mosely Turner (15 June 185621 March 1968) was a British supercentenarian and the world's oldest person for more than two years. He was born in Mitcham, England, and died in Tottenham, also in England, at age 111 years 280 days. He had been blind since the age of 73.[11] Turner was first listed in the 1964 edition of the Guinness Book of Records as Britain's oldest man, and was in fact the oldest man in the world.

Janetta Jane Thomas

Janetta Jane Thomas (2 December 18695 January 1982) of Llantrisant, Wales was a British supercentenarian and was mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records in the 1980s. Thomas was the last surviving person in the UK to have been born in the 1860s and from 20 October 1980 to her death in an old people's home at Cowbridge, Wales, aged 112 years and 34 days, was the oldest living person within the United Kingdom. A photograph of her, which was taken the day before her 112th birthday, appeared in The Times. Had Janetta Thomas lived another six days, she would have broken the UK longevity record which at that time was held by Alice Stevenson.

Anna Eliza Williams

Anna Eliza Williams, née Davies (2 June 187327 December 1987) was a British supercentenarian. She was born in Gloucestershire, England, United Kingdom,[citation needed] and died in Swansea, Wales, United Kingdom, aged 114 years 208 days, where she moved after her marriage. She broke the UK longevity record on 12 July 1985. On her 113th birthday Norris McWhirter paid her a visit at the Tuxedo Old Persons home, where she was living at the time. She was listed in the Guinness Book of Records in the 1980s and early 1990s. Her record as the undisputed oldest recorded person ever was broken by Jeanne Calment in 1989. Her United Kingdom record of 114 years 208 days was broken by Charlotte Hughes in 1992, who still holds that record to this day.

John Evans

John Evans (19 August 187710 June 1990) is the longest-lived man ever authenticated in the United Kingdom.

He had been a Welsh coal miner, and became the oldest man in the United Kingdom ever when he broke the record of England's John Mosely Turner (1856—1968). In March 1986, at 108, Evans was fitted with a pacemaker, to which he made a remarkably quick recovery. When asked by interviewers for the secret of his long life, he replied, "No smoking, no drinking and no cursing". On his 110th birthday, he visited London for the first time in his life.

The United Kingdom male longevity record set by John Evans, who died at 112 years and 295 days old, still stands. He is recognized as the world's oldest man from 25 November 1988, from the death of Alphaeus Philemon Cole, until Evans' death. Guinness had recognized Evans as the "world's oldest man" in 1989, but let the title lapse after his death, only to bring it back in 2000.

Daisy Adams

Daisy Adams (née Woodward, 30 June 18808 December 1993) was for about nine months the oldest person in the UK, between 17 March 1993 and her death on 8 December 1993. She was from Church Gresley, Derbyshire. She died at the age of 113 years and 161 days, and outlived her husband and her five children.

Rebecca Hewison

Rebecca Hewison (née Ramsdale, 19 October 188122 September 1994) was born in Grimsby. In 1990 she met the Queen Mother. She also was a supporter of Grimsby Town football club. She died at age 112 years 338 days.

Lucy Jane Askew

Lucy Jane Askew (8 September 18839 December 1997) was an English supercentenarian and the oldest in her country at the time of her death at the age of 114 years and 92 days. Askew was born and died in Loughton. She had five other siblings, all of whom she outlived, though three of them also lived past 100. Askew was always in good health, and only moved into a nursing home when she was 106. She even survived a leg operation at 108, and was the last person documented to have been born in 1883.[14]

Annie Jennings

Annie Jennings, née Thomas[citation needed] (12 November 188420 November 1999) was an English supercentenarian and the world's second-oldest person, after American Sarah Knauss, at her death aged 115 years 8 days. She became the oldest person in the UK following the death of Lucy Jane Askew in 1997. Jennings held the title for about two years and was succeeded as the oldest person in the UK by Eva Morris. A teacher who never married,[citation needed] she is second only to Charlotte Hughes on the UK's all-time list, and the 25th oldest person on record. She apparently disliked being listed in the Guinness Book of Records.

She was the last surviving person documented as born in 1884.

Eva Morris

Eva Morris, née Sharpe (8 November 18852 November 2000) was the oldest recognized person in the world from 30 December 1999 until her death. She was a native of Stone, Staffordshire, England.

Eva became the oldest person in the UK following the death of Annie Jennings (12 November 188420 November 1999), who died only eight days after turning 115. Morris, for her part, died just six days short of her 115th birthday.

She was the last surviving person documented as born in 1885.

Florence Emily 'Florrie' Baldwin, née Davies (born 31 March 1896) is a supercentenarian and, at 128 years, 57 days, is recognized as the oldest living person in the United Kingdom following the death on 9 February 2007 of Aida Mason, who was 111.[15] Born in Hunslet, she married engineer Clifford Baldwin in 1920.[16] After his death in 1973, she lived alone until she was 105, when she moved to Radcliffe Gardens in Leeds.[15] She credits her longevity to eating an egg sandwich every day.[17]
