The Cadre 47/2 World Championship (until 1947 Cadre 45/2) has been held in the carom variant Cadre 47/2 since 1903 . It was initially organized by the then Fédération Française de Billard (FFB) (1903-1913), from 1914 to 1923 by the FFAB ( Fédération Française des Amateurs de Billard ), in 1924 by the Fédération Internationale des Amateurs de Billard (FIAB), then from the Union Internationale des Fédérations des Amateurs de Billard (UIFAB; 1925–1959) and since 1959 from today's UMB ( Union Mondiale de Billard ). Between 1903 and 1913 there was a second billiard association , the Fédération des Sociétés Françaises des Amateurs de Billard (FSFAB). This also hosted world championships, but mainly professional world championships, which were not recognized by the FFAB after the union of the FSFAB and FFB. This agreement was later also taken over by UMB. All of the associations mentioned go back to the FSFAB and emerged over the years through unification and renaming.

Albert Poensgen at the Cadre 45/2 World Championship in New York in 1932 in the tournament hall of the "Elks Club" while defending his title. Carl Foerster (GER) is playing at the table on the left, while referee Albert Cutler is standing next to him. Worth Bergherm (USA) plays at the right table, while Francis S. Appleby (USA) sits on the chair between the two tables.

history

Edmond Soussa and Albert Corty at the 1930 World Cup in Antwerp

Until the early 1920s, the Cadre 45/2 World Championship was the only one that was played. In the carom area it was the most popular variety at this time before it was supplemented internationally by other disciplines. There has only been one world championship in the last 40 years because this discipline can no longer withstand today's level of difficulty. In cadre 47/2, averages are played today as they were years ago in the free game . As a result, the interest in world championships in this discipline, as in the free game many years ago, has greatly decreased. Thus, after 100 years, the 2003 World Cup was probably the last to be held in this discipline. The Cadre 47/2 European Championship , however, still takes place regularly. The results from 1903 to 1909 can no longer be completely determined in today's archives.

The record winner is the Belgian Théo Moons , the current title holder is Frédéric Caudron from Belgium.

mode

Until 1909 the tournaments were played up to 400 points, everyone against everyone. From 1910 the same, but in the final in three sets of 400 to 1200 points. From 1919 to 1924 to 500 points, in the final, as before, to three times the distance. Since 1910 the world championships have been played as a challenge tournament. The runner-up had the right to claim the title holder within a period of six months and to hold it in his home town. If he waived this, the right fell to the third-placed.

In 1925 there were two world championships. The first was a challenge battle between the then leading players Albert Corty from France and the Dutchman Jan Dommering . This fight took place from January 29th to 31st in Marseille . The second World Cup from April 14th to 23rd in Paris . From 1926 to 1978 only up to 400 points. In 2003 up to 300 (qualification 250) points were played.

Records

Jean Marty was the first athlete to play a game of up to 400 points in 1 shot at a Cadre 47/2 World Championship in 1967 . Another four actors followed. Frédéric Caudron and Fabian Blondeel managed up to 300 points .

The Spaniard Rafael Garcia achieved the best GD at a Cadre 47/2 World Championship with 131.90 ; the highest prolonged series at a Cadre 47/2 World Championship was played by Dutchman Hans Vultink with 735 points in 1973 in Krefeld. ( Prolonged ).
