The national ice hockey team of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) competed in ice hockey for the United Team at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville and became Olympic champion.
history
The national ice hockey team of the CIS was founded in 1992 to represent the United Team , a selection of athletes from the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States , at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville . First, the team played three friendly matches against Austria , Canada and Italy in January 1992 . The national team then took part in their preparation for the Olympic Games in the Nissan Cup in Switzerland , where they surprisingly lost 3-0 to the host, the Swiss national ice hockey team , in the finals.
The Winter Olympics were finally dominated by the CIS team, which achieved seven wins in eight games and suffered only one defeat (a 3: 4 against Czechoslovakia ). Eventually the team became Olympic champions with a 3-1 final victory over Canada.
