The 99th World Figure Skating Championships took place from March 22nd to 29th, 2009 in Los Angeles ( USA ). The venue was the Staples Center .

On September 19, 2006, the International Skating Union (ISU) announced the Californian metropolis as the host. A total of 216 runners from 52 countries were registered for the event. Montenegro was added as an official member of the ISU. Brazil and Ireland competed for the first time in the history of world championships.
