The Court Organization Act of February 8, 1961 regulates the organization of ordinary courts in Hesse. In the annex to this law, the affiliation of the respective Hessian municipalities to the judicial districts is specified.

The first forerunner was a grand ducal ordinance "Regarding the division of the state into district councils and district courts" of July 14, 1821, which established the following ordinary courts for the Grand Duchy of Hesse :

The seat of the Hessian Higher Regional Court was Frankfurt determined. The seats of the nine Hessian regional courts that still exist today were determined:

The district of the Darmstadt Regional Court from the districts of the District Courts of Beerfelden (repealed on July 1, 1968), Bensheim , Darmstadt , Dieburg , Fürth , Groß-Gerau , Groß-Umstadt (repealed on July 1, 1968), Hirschhorn (Neckar) (repealed on July 1, 1968), Höchst im Odenwald (repealed on July 1, 1968), Lampertheim , Langen , Michelstadt , Offenbach am Main , Reichelsheim im Odenwald (repealed on July 1, 1968), Reinheim (repealed on July 1, 1968) , Rüsselsheim (founded on June 1, 1976), Seligenstadt and Wald-Michelbach (repealed on July 1, 1968).
  2. The district of the Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main from the districts of the district courts of Frankfurt am Main , Bad Homburg vd Höhe , Königstein im Taunus , Bad Vilbel (dissolved on January 1, 2005) and Usingen .
  3. The district of the District Court of Fulda from the districts of the district courts of Fulda , Bad Hersfeld , Hünfeld and Lauterbach (dissolved on January 1, 2005).
  4. The district of the regional court of Giessen from the districts of the district courts of Alsfeld , Büdingen , Butzbach (dissolved on January 1, 2005), Friedberg , Gießen , Grünberg (repealed on July 1, 1968), Homberg (Ohm) (repealed on July 1, 1968) , Laubach (repealed on July 1, 1968), Bad Nauheim (repealed on July 1, 1968), Nidda , Ortenberg (repealed on July 1, 1968) and Schotten (repealed on July 1, 1968).
  5. The district of the district court Hanau am Main from the districts of the district courts Gelnhausen , Hanau am Main , Langenselbold (repealed on July 1, 1968), Bad Orb (repealed on July 1, 1968), Salmünster (repealed on July 1, 1968), Schlüchtern , Steinau (repealed on July 1, 1968) and Wächtersbach (repealed on July 1, 1968).
  6. The district of the regional court of Kassel from the districts of the district courts Arolsen , Eschwege , Fritzlar , Hofgeismar (dissolved on January 1, 2005), Karlshafen (dissolved on July 1, 1968), Kassel , Korbach , Melsungen , Rotenburg an der Fulda , Sontra (canceled on June 1, 1976), Bad Wildungen (dissolved on January 1, 2005), Witzenhausen (dissolved on January 1, 2005) and Wolfhagen (dissolved on January 1, 2005).

  1. The district of the Darmstadt Regional Court is formed from the districts of the district courts of Bensheim , Darmstadt , Dieburg , Fürth , Groß-Gerau , Lampertheim , Langen (Hesse) , Michelstadt , Offenbach am Main , Rüsselsheim and Seligenstadt .
  2. The district of the Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main is formed from the districts of the district courts of Frankfurt am Main , Bad Homburg vd Höhe , Königstein im Taunus and Usingen (repealed on January 1, 2012).
  3. The district of the District Court of Fulda is formed from the districts of the district courts of Fulda , Bad Hersfeld , Hünfeld and Rotenburg an der Fulda (repealed on January 1, 2012).
  4. The district of the regional court of Gießen is formed from the districts of the district courts of Alsfeld , Büdingen , Friedberg (Hessen) , Gießen and Nidda (repealed on January 1, 2012).
  5. The district of the district court Hanau is formed from the districts of the district courts Gelnhausen , Hanau and Schlüchtern (repealed on January 1, 2012).
  6. The district of the regional court of Kassel is formed from the districts of the district courts of Bad Arolsen (repealed on January 1, 2012), Eschwege , Fritzlar , Kassel , Korbach and Melsungen .
