Grebenișu de Câmpie old spelling Grebenișu de Cîmpie [ grebeˈniʃu de ˈkɨmpie ] (outdated Gerebeniș ; German Gerbesch , Hungarian Mezőgerebenes or also Gerebenes ) is a municipality in the Mureș district , in the Transylvania region in Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality of Grebenișu de Câmpie is located in the Transylvanian Heath (Câmpia Transilvaniei) - part of the Transylvanian Basin - in the west of the Mureș district. At the Bach Hârtoape and the county road (drum județean) DJ 151A, the place Grebenişu de Câmpie is about 30 kilometers northwest of the district capital Târgu Mureş (Neumarkt am Mieresch) .
history
The place Grebenișu de Câmpie was first mentioned in 1294 and has been inhabited by a majority of Romanians since the 15th century. Here in Gerebeniş is said to have been a wooden church and an Orthodox rectory in 1447 . Today's Orthodox Church Sfinții Arhangheli Mihail și Gavriil was built in 1901 and stands in the place of a wooden church that was built in 1750. The church was renovated between 1991 and 2001 and was rededicated on June 21, 2015.
In the Kingdom of Hungary , the place belonged to the Marosludas chair district in the Torda-Aranyos County, then to the historical Mureș County and from 1950 to the present Mureș County.

The highest number of inhabitants (2,607) and that of the Romanians (2,516) in 1966 have been registered in the area of today's municipality since 1850. The highest number of Magyars (172) was determined in 1910, Roma (250) in 1977 and that of Romanian Germans in 1977.
