Măgherani [ ˈməɟeranʲ ] (outdated Măgheruş ; Hungarian Nyárádmagyarós or Magyarós ) is a municipality in the Mureş County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

Geographical location

The municipality of Măgherani is located north of the Kokel Highlands (Podișul Târnavelor) in the Transylvanian Basin . At the brook Nirajul Mic , a left tributary of the Niraj (Niersch) and the county road (Drum județean) DJ 135, the place Măgherani is ten kilometers northeast of the small town Miercurea Nirajului (Sereda) and about 30 kilometers east of the district capital Târgu Mureș ( Neumarkt am Mieresch) away. The two incorporated villages are between one and five kilometers from the community center.

history

The place Măgherani founded by Szekler was first mentioned in 1576. Yet assigned to a previous age, a settlement on the said area by the locals interpreted in Măgherani remains Culmea Cetăţii (Hungarian Várbérce ), however, the Romanian Ministry of Culture dated the settlement under the name Piscul Cetăţii in the Hallstatt period or in the Latènezeit . In the incorporated villages of Șilea Nirajului (Nyárádselye) and Torba (Toperdorf) in the Bronze Age . Archaeological finds on the community area were assigned to the Neolithic Age .

In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Nyáradszereda chair district in Maros-Torda County , then to the historical Mureș District and, from 1950, today's Mureș District.

Until 1994, the three villages were part of the municipality of Bereni ( Székelybere in Hungarian ). There is no drinking or sewage network in the area of ​​the municipality ; is planned to be implemented in 2018.

Since 1850 the area of ​​today's municipality has had the highest number of inhabitants and (probably) that of the Magyars in 1956. The highest population of Romanians (39) was determined in 1920, that of Roma (104) in 1966 and that of Romanian Germans in 1910.

  • The buildings in the community center, erected on both sides in Strada Principală (main street) in the 19th century, are under monument protection.
  • In the incorporated village of Torba, the properties in the Str. Principală No. 4, 5, 10, 12, 20-26, 31, 46, 49, 54, 62, 64 and 112 built in the 19th century, are under monument protection.
