The municipality of Aluniș is located in the Miereschtal in the northern part of the Transylvanian Basin west of the Gurghiu Mountains (Munții Gurghiu) . On the upper reaches of the Mureş (Mieresch) , the district road (Drum județean) DJ 154A and the railway line Târgu Mureş – Deda – Gheorgheni , the place is 18 kilometers northeast of the city of Reghin (Saxon Rain) and about 50 kilometers northeast of the district capital Târgu Mureş (Neumarkt am Mieresch) away. history

The place Aluniș was first mentioned in a document (according to different information) in 1220 or 1228.

Archaeological finds on Mount Dealul Cetății (Hungarian Várbérc ) indicate that the region was settled in Roman times . Some of the finds in the area of the village were assigned to the Neolithic Age .

In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Régen Felső (Ober-Regen) district in Maros-Torda County , then to the historical Mureș District and, from 1950, today's Mureș District.

The salt water springs on the area of the incorporated village of Lunca Mureșului (German Holten ; Hungarian Holtmaros ) have been neglected, so that the former salt bath of the place has been abandoned and only a smaller spring has been preserved.
