Solovăstru [ soloˈvəstru ] (outdated Solovătrul Gurghiului ; German  Reußischdorf , Hungarian Görgényoroszfalu ) is a municipality in the Mureş district , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The place Solovăstru is also known under the German name Heuschdorf , Heussischdorf und Salzwasser , and the Hungarian Görgényoroszfalva and Nagyoroszfalu .

Geographical location

Location of the municipality of Solovăstru in Mureș County

The municipality Solovăstru is located east of the Reener Ländchen (Ținutul Reghinului) in the northern part of the Transylvanian Basin . On the left bank of the Gurghiu - a left tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) - and the district road (Drum județean) DJ 154E, the place Solovăstru is four kilometers east of the city of Reghin (Saxon Rain) and about 40 kilometers northeast of the district capital Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) away. The incorporated village is located on the right side of the Gurghiu about six kilometers northeast of the community center.

history

The place Solovăstru was first mentioned in 1644. On the area of the incorporated village of Jabenița (Salzau) near Muntele Sărat (Salt Mountain ), an earth wall with a diameter of 250 meters is noted, which has not yet been assigned to an era. From the former castles at Cetatea Slăninii (Hungarian Szalonnavár ) and Cetatea Fetii (Hungarian Leányvár ) no remains can be seen. Archaeological finds in the area of the village have been dated to the Late Bronze Age. Because of the rock salt deposits in the area of the municipality, salt was mined here as early as Roman times .

In the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged to the Régen alsó (Lower Rain) district in Maros-Torda County , then to the historical Mureș District and, from 1950, today's Mureș District.

Until about the beginning of the 1970s, a narrow-gauge railway ran on the area of the municipality along the Gurghiu river from Reghin via Hodac to Lăpuşna .
