Papiu Ilarian (outdated Budiul de Câmpie , Budiu or Bidiu ; German Boden , Hungarian Mezőbodon or Bodon ) is a municipality in the Mureș County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .
Geographical location
The municipality Papiu Ilarian is located in the Transylvanian Heath (Câmpia Transilvaniei) - part of the Transylvanian Basin - in the west of the Mureș district. Papiu Ilarian is located 19 kilometers northeast of the small town of Luduş (Ludasch) and about 40 kilometers (28 km as the crow flies) west of the district capital Târgu Mureş (Neumarkt am Mieresch) on the Icland brook and the district road (Drum județean) DJ 153G .
history
The place Papiu Ilarian was first mentioned in a document in 1332 or 1334, according to different sources. In the Middle Ages the place was a Szekler village and belonged to the Bogata estate .
An occupation of the site is to archaeological finds in the Roman period dated. Numerous archaeological finds in Papiu Ilarian are assigned to different ages, going back to the Neolithic .
At the time of the Kingdom of Hungary , today's municipality belonged partly to the Régen alsó ("sub-rain") district and partly to the Marosludas district in the Torda-Aranyos County, then to the historical Turda district and from 1950 to the present Mureş district.

Since 1850, the area of Papiu Ilarian has had the highest number of inhabitants and that of the Magyars and Romanians in 1956. The highest number of Roma (88) was registered in 1850 and that of Romanian Germans one each in 1880 and 1910.

- The Greek Catholic priest Ioan Pop, the father of Alexandru Papiu-Ilarian, lived and worked here .
