Râciu old spelling Rîciu [ ˈrɨt͡ʃiu ] (outdated Riciul de Câmpie ; Hungarian Mezőrücs ) is a municipality in the Mureș County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The place is also known under the Hungarian name Rücs .

Geographical location

The municipality of Râciu with its 15 villages and hamlets is located in the Transylvanian Basin in the west of the Mureș district. On the upper reaches of the Lechința a right tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) and the Drum național 15E , the place Râciu is located 26 kilometers northwest of the district capital Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) .

From Râciu, the Mocănița Transilvaniei narrow-gauge railway will again run in a northerly direction in the spring of 2017 for around 35 kilometers to the town of Teaca in the Bistrița-Năsăud district after a long shutdown .

history

The place Râciu was first mentioned in 1305 and was a Romanian Knesendorf in the Middle Ages . In unincorporated village Sânmărtinu de Campie (Martelsfeld) one was archaeological find in the Roman period dated.

In the Kingdom of Hungary , the municipality belonged to the Maros Felső (Ober-Maros) district in Maros-Torda County and then to the historical Mureș District and, from 1950, today's Mureș District.
