Band (outdated Bandu de Câmpie ; German  Bandorf , Hungarian Mezőbánd ) is a municipality in the Mureș County , in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The place is also known by the Hungarian name of Bánd .

Geographical location

The municipality of Band is located in the Transylvanian Basin in the center of the Mureș district. On the brook Lechința , a right tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) , and the district road (Drum județean) DJ 152A, the place is located seven kilometers west of the district capital Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) .

history

The place Band founded by Szekler was first mentioned in 1332.

About two and a half kilometers southwest of the community center, on the mountain, called by the locals, Dealului Surpăturii (Hungarian Dulásvar ), a cemetery was assigned to the Bronze Age . Many of the 191 graves explored were found in a robbed and poor condition. The numerous objects of archaeological finds have been assigned to different ages - from the Bronze Age to the Latène Age to the Migration Period . Some of the numerous finds are in a Budapest museum. On the area of ​​the incorporated village of Oroiu (Székelyuraly) remains of a settlement from the early Bronze Age are noted.

In 1601 the first school of the Reformed parish is mentioned in volume , and in 1778 that of the Greek Catholic parish. A school of the Orthodox parish in a wooden house is only recorded in 1853, until then the students were taught in the teacher's house. The first state school in Hungarian in the village was founded in 1876 and moved to today's old school in 1877 .

In the Kingdom of Hungary , the municipality belonged to the Maros alsó (Unter-Maros) district in Maros-Torda County and then to the historical Mureș County and, from 1950, today's Mureș County.

Since 1880 the highest number of inhabitants and at the same time that of the Romanians were registered in the area of ​​today's municipality in 1956. The highest number of Magyars (4,997) was recorded in 1941, that of Roma (1,655) in 2011 and that of Romanian Germans (24) in 1910.
