Ernei (obsolete Erneiul Mare or Erneul Mare ; German pipe Dachen , Hungarian Nagyernye ) is a commune in Mureş County , in the region of Transylvania in Romania .
The place is also known under the German name Großarn and Arn and the Hungarian Ernye .
Geographical location
The municipality of Ernei is located in the Mureș Valley in the Transylvanian Basin north of the Kokel Highlands (Podișul Târnavelor) in the center of the Mureș District. On the Terebici stream - a left tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) - and the DN15 national road , the village of Ernei is ten kilometers north of the district capital of Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) . In the area of the municipality, the Târgu Mureş – Deda – Gheorgheni railway runs with a stop in the incorporated village of Dumbrăvioara (Scharnberg) .
history
The place Ernei, founded by Szekler , was first mentioned in a document in 1332, with archaeological finds on the area of the place dating back to the Neolithic Age .
In the area of the incorporated village Căluşeri (Hungarian Székelykál ) numerous archaeological finds were made and on the area called Valea lui Bogdan (Hungarian Bogdánvőlgye ), remains of buildings from the Middle Ages and at Fântână Sf. Petru found remains of a Roman settlement. In addition to numerous finds, remains of a medieval castle were also found on the area of the incorporated village of Dumbrăvioara. Finds of former settlements in the areas of the incorporated villages of Icland (Hungarian Ikland ) and Săcăreni (Hungarian Székes ) could not yet be assigned to an era.
In the Kingdom of Hungary , the municipality belonged to the Maros Felső (Ober-Maros) district in Maros-Torda County and then to the historical Mureș District and, from 1950, today's Mureș District.
In 2018, the municipal council decided to extend the sewage system in Dumbrăvioara by almost 6 kilometers and to build a new town hall.

The highest number of inhabitants has been registered in the area of today's municipality since 1850 and that of the Magyars in 1966. The highest number of Romanians (936) was determined in 1920, that of Roma (953) in 2011 and that of Romanian Germans (22) in 1910.
Attractions
- In the incorporated village of Călușeri, the Unitarian church built in 1726 and its bell tower, built in 1783, are under monument protection.
- The Reformed Church in Dumbrăvioara , built in 1785, the manor house of the Hungarian aristocratic Teleki family built in the 18th century, renovated in the 20th and the crypt of the noble family built in 1772, are listed as historical monuments.

- Olga Nagy (1921–2006) was a folklorist, ethnographer, novelist and writer for young people
- Sámuel Teleki (1739–1822), born in Dumbrăvioara, was court chancellor of the Obergespan in Bihar County , member of the academy of Göttingen, Jena and Warsaw and founder of the library of Hungarian history with over 60,000 volumes. He had a catalog in three volumes from 1796–1817 published in Latin in Vienna and Leipzig.
- Sámuel Teleki (1845–1916), born in Dumbrăvioara, was a Hungarian politician and explorer
