Voivodeni (outdated Sânioana or Sântioana ; German Johannisdorf, Hungarian Vajdaszentivány ) is a municipality in the Mureș district , in the Transylvania region in Romania .
The place is also known under the German name Johannesdorf and the Hungarian Szentivány .
Geographical location
The municipality of Voivodeni is located in the south of the Transylvanian Heath (Câmpia Transilvaniei) , part of the Transylvanian Basin . At Bach Luț - a right tributary of the Mureș (Mieresch) - and the county road (drum județean) DJ 154J is the place Voivodeni 13 kilometers southwest of the city Reghin (Saxon rain) and 23 kilometers north of the district capital Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) .
history
The place Voivodeni was first mentioned in 1332.
According to archaeological excavations , two kilometers north of Voivodeni on the hill called Benghát ( 374 m ), settlement in the region is dated to the Bronze and Hallstatt Ages. Archaeological finds of the place are in the Museum Bruckenthal in Sibiu . Also to the south of the village, at La comoară by the locals , are ruins that point to Roman times and a Roman road is noted.
Finds of a Roman settlement in the area of the building of the agricultural production cooperative are noted in the area of the incorporated village of Toldal (Hungarian Toldalag ).
In the Kingdom of Hungary , the place belonged to the chair district Régen alsó ("sub-rain") in the Maros-Torda County, then to the historical Mureș County and from 1950 to the present Mureș County.

Since 1850, the highest number of inhabitants (2,849) was registered in 1956 in the area of today's municipality. The highest number of Magyars was determined in 1941, that of Romanians (1,019) in 1966, Roma (263) in 1930 and that of Romanian Germans in 1941.
Attractions
- In the community center, the reformed church built in the 15th century, rebuilt in the 18th century and the country house of the Hungarian aristocratic family Zichy built in the 18th century are listed as historical monuments.
- On the area of the incorporated village there are several lakes, Lacul Sate , where fishing can be done.
