Sântana de Mureș old spelling Sîntana de Mureș [ sɨntˈana de mureʃ ] ( Hungarian Marosszentanna and Szentanna ) is a municipality in the Mureș district in the Transylvania region in Romania .

The municipality of Sântana de Mureș is located in the Transylvanian Basin north of the Kokel Highlands (Podișul Târnavelor) . In the center of the Mureș district at the confluence of the Iceni brook in the Mureș (Mieresch) and a little east of the Drum național 15E , the place Sântana de Mureș is located about three kilometers north of the district capital Târgu Mureș (Neumarkt am Mieresch) .

history

The place Sântana de Mureș, founded by Szekler , was first mentioned in 1332. On the area of ​​the place was a burial ground from the 3rd or 4th century; numerous archaeological finds associated with the migration period . A Roman road in the area of ​​Sântana de Mureş runs in a north-easterly direction to Călugăreni, a village belonging to the municipality of Eremitu . Roman roads are also present on the area of ​​the incorporated villages Chinari (Schlossberg) and Curteni (Hungarian Udvarfalva ).

In the 17th and 18th centuries, the place was owned by the Hungarian noble family Lázár .

In the Kingdom of Hungary , the municipality belonged to the Maros alsó (Unter-Maros) district in Maros-Torda County and then to the historical Mureș County and, from 1950, today's Mureș County.

  • In Sântana de Mureș the reformed church was built at the end of the 13th and beginning of the 14th century and is a listed building.
