Henry Charles Taylor (born December 16, 1932 in Shefford , Bedfordshire , † October 24, 2013 in Vallauris , France ) was a British racing driver and businessman.

Career

Taylor was one of the many British farmers and garage owners who sought happiness and variety in motorsport in the 1950s .

His automotive world championship - debut he gave at the Grand Prix of Great Britain in 1959 in Aintree on a Cooper T51 's achievements RHH Parnell . Starting from 21st place, it was enough for 11th place in the end. He was not discouraged by this, although the end of the era of pure private drivers was already emerging by the end of the 1950s. Different vehicles were offered, but they were rarely competitive and private drivers could hardly bear the costs.

But Taylor did not "only" start as a guest starter at his home Grand Prix (this time at Silverstone ) like many of his compatriots , but also did so during the 1960 Formula 1 season at the Circuit Park Zandvoort , Reims , Porto and try Riverside for the Yeoman Credit Racing Team . He started again with a Cooper T51 and, after finishing seventh in Zandvoort, even achieved fourth place in Reims, which was quite remarkable, but it remained his best place in the automobile world championship.

Although he drove another season on a Lotus 18/21 of the UDT-Laystall Racing Team , after five races he had to realize that he could not compete with the top drivers, especially since he did not have the most reliable material available.

In the mid-1960s he drove a Ford Cortina in the European Touring Car Championship for several seasons and finally retired from racing in 1966.

He later worked as a manager for Ford . After leaving there, he moved to the south of France , where he ran a business selling boats.

He died in October 2013 in a hospital in southern France.
