Engdener Desert / Heseper Moor (Nordhorn Range) is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon municipality of Engden in the integrated municipality of Schüttorf , the unitary municipality of Wietmarschen and the city of Nordhorn in the county of Bentheim and in the unitary municipality of Emsbüren in the district of Emsland .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 188 is 1,012  hectares in size. Of this, 915.2 hectares are in the Grafschaft Bentheim district and 96.8 hectares in the Emsland district. The nature reserve is almost congruent with the EU bird reserve "Engden Desert", which was designated in 2003 . A large part is also part of the 795 hectare FFH area “Heseper Moor, Engden Desert”, which was designated in 1999 . The area has been under nature protection since December 21, 2002. The "Engden Desert" nature reserve, which was designated on April 16, 1988, was incorporated into it. Responsible lower nature conservation authorities are the counties Grafschaft Bentheim and Emsland.

The nature reserve lies entirely within the " Nordhorn air / ground shooting range " (formerly "Nordhorn Range") east of Nordhorn and south of the Ems-Vechte Canal . In the west, it consists of a sand heather complex on inland dunes that was created by anthropogenic impacts, which is followed by areas with birch-oak forest , near-natural small bodies of water and moors . In the northeast, in the Lingen state forest, there are predominantly coniferous forests consisting of pines and larches with remains of birch-oak forest.
