Kiowa County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Hobart .

The county is located in southwest Oklahoma, about 60 km to the west, about 40 km to the south from Texas and covers an area of 2,669 square kilometers, of which 42 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Washita County , Caddo County , Comanche County , Tillman County , Jackson County, and Greer County .
history
Kiowa County was formed as the original county in 1901. The county was settled by white settlers after an official land lottery on August 1, 1901. It was named after the Kiowa Indian tribe .
Eight structures and sites in the county, including the Kiowa County Courthouse , are on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of June 2, 2018.

As of the 2000 census , Kiowa County had 10,227 people in 4,208 households and 2,815 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.54 percent white, 4.67 percent African American, 6.31 percent Native American, 0.31 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.68 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.42 percent were descended from two or more races. 6.74 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,208 households, 27.9 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 52.0 percent were married couples living together, 10.4 percent were single mothers. 33.1 percent were not families, 30.6 percent were single households, and 16.3 percent of the households had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.92 people.
24.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.5 percent between 18 and 24, 24.5 percent between 25 and 44, 23.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 20.3 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 90.7 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 26,053 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,654. Males had a median income of $ 25,552 versus $ 19,497 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,231. 15.0 percent of families and 19.3 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
