final

August 29, 2015, 7:15 p.m. local time (1:15 p.m. CEST )

The favorites for this race were primarily the reigning world champion Eunice Jepkoech Sum, the Belarusian European champion Maryna Arsamassawa and the Briton Lynsey Sharp as vice European champion in 2014 and European champion in 2012 . Sharp, however, was already eliminated in the semifinals. The 2012 Olympic champion Caster Semenya from South Africa was also among the participants. However, she was not in the form of her Olympic victory and, like Sharp, was already eliminated in the semifinals.

Sum took the lead right from the start and ran the first two hundred meters very briskly. But the pace slowed down a bit afterwards, the field was packed together. Only the Moroccan Rababe Arafi had left a gap with her slow start, which she closed again in the second corner. After one lap, Sum continued to lead - 59.10 seconds in the meantime, so not too fast - ahead of Arsamassawa and the French Rénelle Lamote. The field was still completely together. On the back straight, Arsamassawa lay down next to Sum, while Canadian Melissa Bishop took third place ahead of Lamote.

In the finish curve, Arsamassawa increased the pace, at short notice there was a small gap to her pursuers, which was quickly closed by Sum and the field behind. At the end of the bend, the leading three - Arsamassawa, Sum and Bishop - had separated a little from their competitors and only they were fighting for the medals on the home straight. European champion Maryna Arsamassawa prevailed in the end and won the world title ahead of the surprisingly strong Melissa Bishop. Defending champion Eunice Jepkoech Sum won the bronze medal. Rababe Arafi took fourth place ahead of British Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and Ukrainian Natalija Lupu. Joanna Jóźwik from Poland came in seventh, while Rénelle Lamote, who had been in front for a long time, came eighth. All eight runners undercut the two-minute mark.
