Overview of the optional municipalities

On September 24, 2004, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor established the list of municipalities that participate in the so-called option model . The "Ordinance on the approval of municipal bodies as providers of basic security for jobseekers " (Kommunalträger-Zulassungsverordnung - KomtrZV) came into force on September 28, 2004. The number of approved municipal bodies was initially limited to 69 and was distributed according to state contingents, the size of which resulted from the distribution of votes in the Federal Council. By March 31, 2011, the federal states had determined 41 further districts and cities that took over the tasks independently from January 1, 2012 (marked with *).
