Hans Neusidler published his textbook for the lute Das third Buch in Nuremberg in 1544 : a new artificial lute book . It contains an illustration with the designation of the strings and grip positions in the German lute tablature.

• Benedictus Appenzeller has been a singer at the Habsburg court of the regent Maria of Hungary in Brussels since 1536 and head of the choirboys ( maître des enfants ) since 1537 .
• Jakob Arcadelt has been the singer of the Capella Sistina in Rome since December 30, 1540 , where he remains (with interruptions) until June 1551. For the year 1544 he was elected the regular director of the chapel ("Abbas").
