history
Novouralsk was established in 1941 as an industrial complex when a light alloy factory was built. During the Second World War , an aircraft factory was evacuated here from the European part of the Soviet Union.
In 1946, construction of a factory for the production of highly enriched uranium for nuclear weapons began in Novouralsk . Thus Novouralsk became an important center of the nuclear industry in the Urals. Due to its high strategic importance, it was declared a closed city and given the code name Sverdlovsk-44 , which was used until 1994.
The factory began operating as the Urals Electrochemical Combine in 1949.
This facility is still active after the collapse of the Soviet Union , so that Novouralsk has the status of a closed city to this day. For this reason, entering the city area is only possible with a special pass.
economy
The core of Nowouralsk's industry is the State Electrochemical Combine for the production of highly enriched uranium. Other important companies are the truck engine factory AMUR , the boat factory VIZA-Yacht and the window factory Nowouralski DOK .
