At the XXVIII. The 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens hosted 17 shooting competitions, ten of which were for men and seven for women. The venue was the Markopoulo Olympic Shooting Center in the suburb of Markopoulo Mesogeas .

Matthew Emmons , the Olympic champion lying in the KK, was in the lead before the last shot. In this one, however, he made a mistake: He did not fire his shot on his own target, but on the target of the branch line, which caused him to drop to eighth place.
