The Saline County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Missouri . In 2010 , the county had 23,370 residents and a population density of 11.9 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Marshall , named after John Marshall , a US politician, secretary of state , founder of Constitutional Law and presiding judge at the Supreme Court of the United States .

The county is located in central northwest Missouri on the right bank of the Missouri River . It has an area of 1980 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water. The following neighboring counties border Saline County:

history
Saline County was formed in 1820. It was named after the salt mines found in this region. Today's Saline County was one of the historic settlement areas of the Missouri Indians before it was driven into the reservations .
Three places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , Arrow Rock Historic District , George Caleb Bingham House, and Utz Site . 33 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 6, 2018).

22.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.8 percent were 65 years or older. 50.5 percent of the population was female.
