Primera División 1998/99

The Segunda División 1998/99 was the 68th season of the second highest Spanish football league . It began on August 29, 1998 and ended on June 20, 1999. Between June 27 and June 30, 1999, the play-off games were played. The champions became the FC Málaga .

Before the season

The 22 teams met twice on 42 match days. The two best teams went straight to the Primera División . The third and fourth placed played against the 17th and 18th of the Primera División for promotion. Reserve teams are not eligible for promotion. The last four clubs were relegated.

Relegated from the Primera División took SD Compostela , CP Mérida and Sporting Gijon in part. From the Segunda División B came FC Málaga , RCD Mallorca B , FC Barcelona B and Recreativo Huelva .
