badminton
The Badminton Association was founded by 14 clubs on September 12th, 1893 to create uniformity in badminton rules. At this point in time, a badminton field can differ in length, for example, by up to three meters. Colonel SSC Dolby, who becomes the first president and is also Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary, does great service to the association.

Cycling
- May 11th : The Buffalo Velodrome opens in Paris. Here Henri Desgrange sets the first hour record without a pacemaker. Also in May, Georges Cassignard set a new world record over 1 km with a standing start with 1:28 min.
- June 29th / 30th : The endurance bike ride Vienna – Berlin ends with a victory for Bayern Josef Fischer . This most important German and Austrian bike race before the First World War triggered a boom in bicycles .
- August 11th / 12th : At the track cycling world championships in 1893 the American Arthur Augustus Zimmerman becomes the first world champion over the 10 km and the sprint race. The South African Laurens Smitz Meintjes became the first world champion in the stand-up race .
- On September 27 comes Charles Terront after a 14-day voyage from St. Petersburg , take the Buffalo cycling track in Paris.
- The Paris-Brussels cycle race will be held for the first time.

- 21 / January 22 : In the European Figure Skating Championships in 1893 , it is the first major judges scandal in history. The results are annulled in 1895.
- February 2 : In Mürzzuschlag , Austria , the first alpine ski race in Central Europe is held on the initiative of the innkeeper Toni Schruf .
- March 17 : The Montréal Amateur Athletic Association wins the first Stanley Cup without a challenger.
- The Dutchman Jaap Eden wins the first official speed skating world championship .

- February 5 : Alfred Næss , Norway, runs the 500 meter speed skating in Hamar in 49.4 seconds and is the first person to run under 50 seconds.
- February 13th : Halfdan Nielsen , Norway, runs the 10,000 meter speed skating in Stockholm in 19: 47.4 minutes, making it the first person to run under 20 minutes.
- February 25th : Peder Østlund , Norway, runs the 1500 meter speed skating in Hamar in 2: 32.6 minutes.
