badminton
The highlight of the badminton year 1898 was the Guildford Open , which is considered the first official badminton tournament. They were held in Guildford on March 10, 1898, with only the three double disciplines being played. The All England emerged from the Guildford Open and took place for the first time on April 4th of the following year.

- March 16 : The Italian football association Federazione Italiana Football is founded in Turin to organize matches and championships. The CFC Genoa becomes the first champion in the subsequent Italian football championship in 1898 .

- February 15 : At the figure skating world championship in 1898 , Henning Grenander becomes the first Swedish world champion ahead of defending champion Gustav Hügel from Austria and the German Gilbert Fuchs .
- February 26 : At the European figure skating championship in 1898 , the Swede Ulrich Salchow wins his first European championship title ahead of Johan Lefstad and Oscar Holthe from Norway.

- before May 5th : The 1st Vienna Workers' Football Club is founded. The club's first official friendly match ends 1: 1 against Meidlinger FC Vorwärts . Most of the games of the Arbeiter-FC in the beginning end with a clear victory for the opponent. A game against the Vienna AC , founded just a year earlier, is even lost with 0:20 goals.
- May 22 : The FK 1898 Olympic Darmstadt is established from which after the merger with the SC Darmstadt in 1905 in 1919, the SV Darmstadt 98 can be seen.
- August 30th : The Lübeck Yacht Club is founded at the suggestion of the German Emperor with a first general assembly in Lübeck City Hall of 80 members, chaired by the businessman and consul Hermann Wilhelm Fehling .
