badminton
After the First World War, the first attempts to revive competitive sport began in England. The London Championships take place in December 1919 . George Alan Thomas wins there in all three possible disciplines.
baseball
- The 1919 World Series is overshadowed by the " Black Sox Scandal ". This ends the so-called deadball era in Major League Baseball .
Soccer
Championships
- May 11th to 29th : Brazil wins the Campeonato Sudamericano for the first time .
- With four clubs, including the Steyr football club Vorwärts , an Upper Austrian league championship will be held for the first time .
Founding of clubs
- January 1st : The Austrian football club SC Parndorf is officially founded.
- January 15 : The Tunisian sports club Espérance Tunis is founded, best known for its football and handball department.
- March 18th : The football club FC Valencia is officially founded after a presidential election on March 5th . The first game of the new club was lost on March 21st with 0-1 against Valencia Gimnástico .
- March 23rd : The Steyr football club Vorwärts is founded, the official founding ceremony is held on April 14th in the Casino Steyr. Vorwärts Steyr will play his first game on June 15 in Linz against the Linz athletic sports club Siegfried . It ends 2-2.
- May 3 : In Bratislava the football club is the first CSSK Bratislava was established and in 1953 ŠK Slovan Bratislava renaming.
- June 2 : The merger of the three clubs SC Germania 1887 , Hamburger FC 1888 and FC Falke 06 creates Hamburger SV .
- August 28th : The ball sports club Vorwärts 1919 Lübeck is founded.
Handball
- The Berlin gymnastics teacher Carl Schelenz is further developing the handball game designed by Oberturnwart Max Heiser for girls . He also makes it attractive to boys and men by allowing one-on-one fights and by making the ball smaller, placing the throwing in the foreground. He also introduces bouncing. Schelenz takes over the rest of the basics such as playing field, team size and referee from football. Then handball became more and more popular and the first club teams were formed.

- June 16 : Jean Bouin , France, runs the men's 10,000 meters in 30: 58.8 minutes.
- August 13 : Jonni Myyrä , Finland, reaches 65.55 m in the men's javelin .
