- Charlotte Hand (USA) jumps 8.80 m in the women's triple jump in Poughkeepsie.
Cycling
- March 15 : The first Six Days of cycling in Europe, the Berlin Six Day Race is in the Berlin exhibition halls at the zoo started.
- May 13 : The first Giro d'Italia starts in Milan , which Luigi Ganna wins on May 30 after having covered eight stages .
- July 5 - August 1 : Luxembourg's François Faber wins the 1909 Tour de France . This makes him the first non-French to win this stage race .
