- August 5th : Peter O'Connor , Ireland, jumps 7.61m in the men's long jump in Dublin after jumping 7.51m, 7.54m and 7.60m in the same year. The world record lasts for over 20 years and is included in the first official world record list by the International Amateur Athletics Federation ( IAAF ) in 1912 .

- January 13 : The Austrian Gustav Hügel wins the European figure skating championship in 1901 ahead of the German Gilbert Fuchs and the Swede Ulrich Salchow .
- February 9th to 17th : The Nordic Games are held for the first time in Stockholm .
- 10 / 11 February : at the World Figure Skating Championships in 1901 in Stockholm to take part as last year, only two men. Ulrich Salchow wins ahead of Gilbert Fuchs.
- Carl Benzing designs the first German five-man bobsleigh . In the same year , the open bobsleigh made of tubular steel, which he called Black Peter , drove for the first time on the Rote Weg near Friedrichroda .
