Brian "Sailor" Roberts (also Bryan Roberts ; born March 7, 1931 , † June 23, 1995 ) was a professional American poker player . He won the Main Event of the World Series of Poker in 1975 and secured a total of two bracelets in this tournament series.

Poker career

Career

Before Roberts became a professional player, he roamed the country as a "rounder" and looked out for gaming opportunities with other legends such as Doyle Brunson and Thomas Preston . In addition to being a world-class poker player, Roberts was also a masterful contract bridge player .

In May 1974 Roberts won his first bracelet in the Deuce to Seven Draw variant at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Binion's Horseshoe in Las Vegas . The following year he won the Main Event of the WSOP in 1975 , making it his second WSOP bracelet and 210,000 US dollars received.

Roberts got his nickname "Sailor" because he served in the United States Navy during the Korean War . He died in June 1995 of sclerosis caused by hepatitis .
