The Football League Second Division 1953/54 was the 51st season of the Football League Second Division as the second highest English football league . It began on August 19, 1953 and ended on April 29, 1954.

Second division champions were Leicester City and also the second-placed Everton rose to the Football League First Division . For the two promoted teams in the following second division season 1954/55, the two first division clubs Middlesbrough FC and Liverpool FC, which are ranked in the table below, took the places. The FC Brentford and Oldham Athletic had to relegate from the Second Division , with Oldham henceforth having to compete in the North Season Football League Third Division North and Brentford in the Football League Third Division South . Instead of the two clubs in the following season 1954/55 Third Division North champions Port Vale and from the Third Division South the winner Ipswich Town took the vacant positions.
