Garda (wine)

White and red wines are produced under the name Garda in the northern Italian provinces of Verona , Mantua and Brescia . The cultivation area thus extends over two regions: Veneto and Lombardy . The wines have had a "controlled designation of origin " (" Denominazione di origine controllata " - DOC) since 1996 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Blending wines

  • Garda Bianco: Garganega , Trebbiano ( Trebbiano di Soave and / or Trebbiano Toscano ), Chardonnay , Pinot Grigio alone or together at least 50%. For the remaining part, grapes made from other white, non-aromatic and / or black, but white-pressed grapes suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region and in the province of Verona can be used. Garda Bianco is also available as Bianco Spumante, Bianco Frizzante and Bianco Passito.
  • Garda Rosso: Corvina and / or Merlot and / or Cabernet and / or Pinot Noir alone or together at least 50%. The rest of the grapes come from non-aromatic black grapes approved for cultivation in Lombardy and the province of Verona. Garda Rosso is also available as Rosso Passito.

  • The controlled designation of origin "Garda" is also reserved for wines that are labeled with two grape varieties with a similar color, such as Garganega, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon, Cortese, Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Corvina , Pinot Nero and Marzemino in their combinations.
