The Hovedserien 1960/61 was the 17th season of the highest Norwegian football league and the 13th season under the name Hovedserien . The season began on July 31, 1960 and ended with the championship final on June 16, 1961.

mode

The 16 teams played against each other in two groups, each with eight teams, in a simple game round with a return game, so that each team played 14 games. The two last placed had to be relegated.

The champion was determined in a final game between the two group winners. Third place was also determined by a final game. Compared to the previous season, some of the groups have been redistributed.

season

Fredrikstad FK became Norwegian champions for the second time in a row. Overall, it was the ninth title for the club.

Of the newcomers only Stavanger IF had to relegate. Lisleby FK , SFK Lyn Oslo and Rosenborg Trondheim were able to hold their own in the Hovedserien .
