John T. Andrews (politician)

John Tuttle Andrews (born May 29, 1803 at Schoharie Creek , New York , † June 11, 1894 in Dundee , New York) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1837 and 1839 he represented New York State in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Tuttle Andrews was born in Greene County about nine years before the outbreak of the British-American War . The family moved to Reading, near Dundee, in Yates County in 1813 . There he attended district schools, but was also taught privately. For several years he worked as a teacher at a school. He then went on to do business in Irelandville and Watkins . He was Justice of the Peace and Sheriff in Steuben County in 1836 and 1837 . Politically, he belonged to the Democratic Party .

In the 1836 congressional election for the 25th Congress , Andrews was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 27th  constituency of New York , where he succeeded Joshua Lee on March 4, 1837 . Since he on a run again in 1838 renounced, he left the after March 3, 1839 Congress of.

After his time at Congress, he retired from active business and settled in Dundee. Between 1866 and 1877 he went back to commercial business. Then he withdrew again from his business activities to take care of his private property. He died on June 11, 1894 in Dundee. His body was then interred in Hillside Cemetery .
